Privacy Policy
Last updated October 12, 2026
The Unread Signal is an independent publication at theunreadsignal.com. This policy explains what information the site collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we need to run the publication.
What we collect
When you read the site. Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information when pages are requested, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages visited. These server logs are used to keep the site secure and working.
When you comment. If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address, and website you enter, along with your IP address and browser information to help detect spam. Your email address is never published. Approved comments and your name are public.
When you email us. If you write to editor@theunreadsignal.com with a tip, correction, or question, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to send. We use it to respond and to evaluate story ideas. We do not publish your name or message without your permission.
Newsletter. If we launch a newsletter, we will collect only the email address you provide, use it only to send the newsletter, and include an unsubscribe link in every issue. This policy will be updated to name the service we use.
Cookies
WordPress may set cookies that remember your comment details or keep site administrators signed in. We do not currently use advertising cookies or sell information to advertisers. If that changes, for example if the site adds advertising or analytics, we will update this policy and ask for consent where the law requires it.
How we use information
We use the information above to operate and secure the site, respond to readers, moderate comments, and improve our reporting. We do not sell personal information.
Who we share it with
Information is handled by the service providers that run the site, including our web host, our email provider, and our backup service. They process it only to provide those services. We may also disclose information if required by law.
How long we keep it
Comments and their metadata are kept as long as the comment remains on the site. Emails are kept as long as needed to respond and keep a record of tips and corrections. Server logs and backups are kept for limited periods set by our providers.
Your choices
You can ask us to see, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, including comments you have posted, by writing to editor@theunreadsignal.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and we will honor requests made under those laws.
Children
The Unread Signal is written for adults and professionals. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We will post any changes on this page and update the date above.
